Magisk-v6.zip via Odin (AP), then pretty sure I used ADB side load to push phh-superuser-17-magisk.zip, then TWRP 3.0.2.0 via Odin, and finally booted up normally and installed Magisk_Manager.apk, all on stock 5.1. It didn't trip Knox and even has a toggle to quickly unroot when you want to play Pokémon Go or something with in-app purchasing. NEVER use an app2sd using another ext2/4 partition.

I bricked it by FRP lock after knocking the cable during another sideload. Unaware that I also toggled off dev options and OEM unlock. I used the ENG_BOOT_G550T_PG1 tar listed above, and managed to find a boot.emmc.tar file, Odin flashed that next, then flashed a 6.0.1 Stock ROM tar, flashed TWRP from Odin again, and it boot into normal mode without the FRP lock. Rebooted after making sure to toggle on dev and OEM and it boot to TWRP. And still worked after a normal boot. May need to backup EFS, BOOT.IMG, just in case.
If you play Pokémon Go, simply reinstall it.

ALWAYS flash TWRP AFTER you push Magisk-v6.zip and phh-superuser or you'll mess it up just as badly as if you interrupted DL mode.
Also note that I could NOT get to anything other than DL mode after messing it up. No recovery, no safe mode, no anything.

I do have the files I used somewhere, still.

I may have gotten mixed up on the files, but I have a personal folder with 4 files I flashed via Odin, aptly named #1, #2, #3, and #4, for the order I flashed them onto the on5.If you'll give me a bit, I'll find those files and also a txt file telling me exactly what I did. I actually don't know if I flashed a zip or not, but I did end up getting a semi-working TWRP onto it somehow. I remember having to use Magisk-v6.zip and getting Magisk Manager, as well as phh superuser. No other SU would work with the toggle, and I believe Safety Net was patched, essentially disabling Pokemon Go with root, even when toggled off or full unroot. I'll look into it.

It's been a bit since I've done this, but I'll look into it for you. My collaborator tells me there's a new method with a flashable root via Magisk again. I'll post again as soon as I get the particulars.
